How to Display Hard Disks On Mac OS X Lion Desktop

How to Display Hard Disks On Mac OS X Lion Desktop

As you can see, not a single icon is displayed on the Mac OS X desktop.

To display hard disks icons on the desktop, follow the below steps:

  1. Launch Finder from the Dock

  2. Using the Menu bar, click on Finder then click on Preferences…

  3. Under the General tab, you can see that only External disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods are selected by default to be displayed on the desktop. What about the internal hard disk for example ? to display the hard disk icon on the desktop, select the checkbox beside Hard disks

  4. Once selected, the changes are applied instantly and you can see now the Macintosh HD icon displayed on the desktop.

If you want to hide the hard disk icon from the desktop, then all what you have to do is to deselect the checkbox beside Hard disks and the icon will be removed from the desktop.
